The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination in ensuring that the Schools Home Grown Feeding Program achieve maximum success in all parts of the country.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk stated this during the flag of the distribution of feeding utensils to the beneficiaries held at Kwali Special Primary School, Abuja.
The Minister stated that the program was an important intervention aimed at poverty alleviation, geared towards reducing the gaps in nutrition, school enrolment, among others.
The Minister noted that the current data on Pupils, Cooks and the value chain reveals that over 9 million pupils are receiving meals in primary schools across the Nation.
“While addressing cross cutting issues of hunger, malnutrition and poverty we have so far recorded over 9 million pupils in the program being fed by over a hundred thousand cooks.”
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State represented by the States Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Kiru, applauded the Federal Government effort for introducing the program, he explained that the food utensils will be distributed to the benefiting schools and assured that the items will be judiciously utilized.
“Kano State is the largest beneficiary of this program and we are grateful for that.”
Muhammad Sanusi Kiru maintained that the Kano State Government has constituted a steering committee to monitor and ensure effective service delivery on the program.
