The Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has initiated a fellowship program for enthusiasts of the Health sector to come and learn and contribute their quoter to the advancement of health related services in Nigeria.
The National Health Fellows is an initiative of the Government of Nigeria through the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative SWAp Coordination Office domiciled at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The Ministry invites application from Nigerian youths to submit their interest to join the renewed pathway to leadership development for the Nigerian Health Sector. It is an opportunity to lead and drive change in our Nation’s Healthcare Sector.
National Health Fellow (NHF) 2025
The 2025 National Health Fellows Programme is part of the Federal Government’s determination to comprehensively upgrade existing primary healthcare centres and construct over 8,800 new primary healthcare centres across all local government areas in the country for accessible and qualitative healthcare delivery with the provision of new social accountability mechanisms.
His Excellency, the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, had last year approved the establishment of the National Health Fellows Programme, bringing together young Nigerian fellows to be engaged in all the 774 local government areas in the country.
The fellowship programme is to be supervised by the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. Successfully recruited fellows will be remunerated, and equipped with appropriate tools to drive positive change in the health sector.
Eligibility RequirementsÂ
To be eligible for the program, an applicant must:
- Be between the ages of 25 and 35.
Bachelor’s degree (health-related, IT, or social sciences). - Demonstrable interest/ or Experience in Public health OR health-related NGO and partner organisations OR community projects that demonstrate leadership and initiative.
- Be available to participate full-time in the fellowship programme.
- Be an indigene of the state being applied for.
- Possess smartphones with data capabilities i.e. for WhatsApp, Zoom etc.
- Have a recommendation from the University Dean OR NYSC place of primary assignment, or a respected organisation demonstrating good character and leadership potentials.
- Possess analytical skills and entrepreneurial drive
NHF Benefits and Duration
The fellowship shall last for 12 months, and participants will undergo training, fieldwork, and mentorship.
