Programs Offered
1. Basic Nursing Programme
This is 3 years – 6 semesters basic nursing programme, approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). The college offers a comprehensive Basic Nursing Program designed to equip students with the fundamental knowledge and skills required for entry-level nursing practice. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and nursing theory.
2. Community Nursing
This is 2 years – 4 semesters Community Nursing programme, approved by the Nursing and Nursing Council of Nigeria (NMCN). The Community Nursing program at the Zamfara State College of Nursing Sciences focuses on preparing nursing professionals to address healthcare needs within communities. This specialized program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to provide healthcare services in various community settings.
Upon completion of the Community Nursing program, graduates are prepared to work in various settings such as community health centers, public health departments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other community-based healthcare organizations. 3. Post Basic Nursing
This is 18 months – 3 semesters programme approved by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). These are programs available for registered nurses who wish to specialize in a particular area of nursing practice. These include post-basic midwifery, post-basic perioperative nursing, post-basic psychiatric nursing, and post-basic intensive care nursing.
4. Foundation Year Programme (FYP)
This is a remedial programme that was initiated by Women for Health (W4H) organization. The programme is meant to ensure increased number of female health workers.
The Foundation Year Programme at the Zamfara State College of Nursing Sciences serves as a preparatory course for students who intend to pursue a career in nursing but require additional academic support or prerequisite coursework before entering the core nursing program.
This programme covers foundational subjects which include mathematics, biology, chemistry, and English language. Additionally, students will receive instruction in study skills, time management, and academic writing to help them excel in their future nursing coursework.
5. Basic Midwifery
This is 3 years – 6 semesters Basic General Midwifery programme, approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and run by Nana Babajo School of Midwifery Gusau.
In addition to academic studies, students at the Zamfara State College of Nursing Sciences are engaged in clinical rotations at the Federal Medical Center, Gusau and other affiliated healthcare facilities. Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for admission into the College, applicant must possess at least (5) O’ level credit at not more than two (2) sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology from NECO, WAEC, or NABTEB.
